linden Posted 27 April , 2008 Share Posted 27 April , 2008 A long time ago I read "Der Untertan " by Heinrich Mann . It was made into BBC tv series with Derek Jacobi - "The Man of Straw " I remember it as a very good description of the Kaiser's Prussia . It gives an impression of the lead up to WW1 . Has anyone else read or seen it ? What do you think ?
Steven Broomfield Posted 28 April , 2008 Share Posted 28 April , 2008 I remember the TV series, and I read the book afterwards. Frankly, it's a long time ago, but what I remember of it is good. Derek Jacobi was (as ever) excellent, and the duel scene I recall as being quite revealing about the mores of the Prussian Officer class.
