John_Hartley Posted 11 June , 2008 Share Posted 11 June , 2008 Pals Another war memorial book to add to your shelves. The author and I have corresponded for ages (mutual support is what you get with us memorial researchers) and I'm pleased to see this book out at last. It follows the current "gold standard" for these books (and websites) in putting flesh on the bones of the men listed on the local memorial. But it takes the story further by giving some idea of wartime life in the village and also of the homecomings. Shirley's website concludes with words close to my heart (and my own project) "Each man should never be forgotten and should be more than just a name carved in stone" Available direct from Shirley at http://www.woodlandspublishing.co.uk/ John (PS: Shirley tells me that she's also available for talks to local groups about the research and the men. She'll enjoy that. I do.)
